We’ve been told that social distancing is one of the key ways to prevent a virus from spreading. While in self-quarantine, we want you to remain healthy and in good spirits.

So today, Dr. Timothy Barry of Family Foot & Ankle Care of Jasper in Dubois County is sharing some self-care tips while in self-quarantine:

Do your shopping. Get an accurate list of what you might need for the next two weeks including fresh food, rice, beans and personal care items such as soap and toilet paper. But don’t hoard!

Stay mindful. Use this time to reflect. Think about the people in your life that you truly care about. Make a bucket list. Use this time to reach a particular level of clarity in your mind.

Treat yourself. Make a face mask, soak in a long bath or a foot massage and make the process even more pleasurable with a scented candle and some music. Just do something nice for yourself.

Organize your home. Sort through your closets and get rid of anything that doesn’t bring you joy.

Spend time with those you love. There are many options to connect with loved ones electronically. Some include Zoom, Facetime, Google Hangouts or WhatsApp.

Take special care of your mental health. Don’t read too much news and most importantly, only trust reliable sources for information. It’s important for your sanity to seek trustworthy content and to keep in touch with those who spread good energy.

Maintain your routine. Wake up early, take a shower, get dressed and maintain your routine. Do whatever is needed to get you into a productive state of mind.

Keep moving. Staying inside doesn’t mean you have to be a couch potato. Look for online yoga or fitness or just put on your favorite music and just dance.

Just relax. Consider a streaming service like Amazon Prime or Netflix, watch movies or just read a good book. Choose something that helps you relax your mind, body, and soul.
